KLIP by HØJ - Long Term Use
A premium, magnet-based grinder designed for ease of use. After years of daily use, we explore whether the HØJ Klip delivers on accessibility and performance.

Author Note: The grinder used for this review was purchased with my own money. I am in no way affiliated with the company or the creator. The article below is my own opinion. I purchased this product several years ago; the product on offer may have undergone some changes since then.
Overview
The HØJ Klip grinder is a premium, precision-engineered alternative to traditional herb grinders. It features a magnetic assembly and a blade-based system, promising a smoother and more user-friendly experience, particularly for those who struggle with standard grinders.
Having used the Klip daily since 2021, I base this review on long-term, real-world use rather than just initial impressions.
Build & Design
From the moment you open the package, the Klip grinder feels unique. The packaging itself sets the tone with layers of milled cork that hold the grinder, extra grind plates, screens, and accessories, all topped with a sleek dome. It is elegant and appears deliberately over-engineered rather than excessive.
In hand, the grinder feels solid, weighty, and well-balanced. Its layered design provides a natural grip, which is particularly beneficial for those with reduced hand strength. The matte black finish gives it a discreet and refined appearance, setting it apart from typical headshop grinders.
The standout feature is the blade system, which replaces traditional teeth. Combined with a fully magnetic assembly, this design allows for:
- No screwing or unscrewing
- Easy disassembly
- Quick reassembly with satisfying magnetic alignment
It’s a thoughtfully designed piece of Danish engineering that prioritises both function and form.
Performance
The Klip delivers a consistent, reliable grind with three interchangeable plates for coarse, medium, and fine results.
Effort required: Very low when used correctly
Consistency: Excellent across all grind sizes
Learning curve: Slight, finding the right grip matters
Because the grinder is fully magnetic, it can occasionally separate if held incorrectly while grinding. Once you get used to it, this becomes a non-issue.
It performs best with drier flowers, but still handles stickier material reasonably well. Overfilling the chamber can cause minor clogging, so a lighter load is best.
Accessibility
This is where the Klip really stands out.
Once familiar with the grip, the top can often be turned with a single finger, making it especially suitable for users with limited hand strength or dexterity challenges.
Suitable for:
- Joint pain
- Tremors
- Limited grip strength
Why it works:
- No twisting apart sections
- Minimal force required
- Magnetic assembly reduces strain
Limitations:
- You still need some grip and rotational ability in at least one hand
- Not completely hands-free or adaptive
Overall, it’s one of the more accessible manual grinders available, particularly for CBPM patients managing pain or fatigue.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Maintenance is straightforward and refreshingly simple.
- Fully magnetic - no threads to deal with
- Comes apart easily for cleaning
- Can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or warm soapy water
Residue build up is relatively slow; I clean mine roughly once a month, even with regular daily use.
The only slightly fiddly part is the upper blade, which can take a moment to align, but magnets and registration marks help guide it into place.
Durability (Long-Term Use)
After several years of daily use:
- No parts have needed replacing
- Performance remains consistent
- Spare blades included in the bundle are still unused
- Few visible wear and tear marks
The build quality is noticeably higher than that of most grinders - and, importantly, it holds up over time.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Very low effort to use
- Magnetic design (no screwing/unscrewing)
- Consistent grind quality
- Easy to clean
- Excellent build quality
- Strong accessibility benefits
Cons
- High price point (~£148 + postage)
- Slight learning curve
- Can separate if held incorrectly
- Performs best when not overfilled
Value for Money
This is where opinions may vary.
The Klip is undeniably expensive for a grinder. While the quality, design, and longevity justify some of that cost, it won’t be the right choice for everyone.
That said, if accessibility, ease of use, and durability are priorities, the investment may make sense - especially for daily users.
Overall Verdict
The HØJ Klip is a premium, thoughtfully designed grinder that genuinely improves usability for people with hand pain, fatigue, or dexterity challenges.
While it’s hard to say it’s objectively “worth” the price for everyone, it has become my daily grinder - and that says a lot.
Best suited for:
- CBPM patients with reduced hand dexterity
- Daily users who value ease of use
- Those willing to invest in a long-term tool
Score: 8/10
A high-quality, accessible grinder that delivers on its promises - if you’re willing to pay for it.
